SHANGHAI: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday met his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev in China and discussed strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Finance Minister, Asad Umar, Minister for Planning and Development, Railways Minister and other officials concerned attended the meeting.
During the meeting held in Shanghai, both the premiers also exchanged views over international and regional issues.
The two the prime ministers expressed satisfaction on the upward trajectory of the bilateral relations. Reviewing ongoing economic, trade, defence and energy cooperation, they stressed that the two sides should explore complementarities to maximise mutual benefit.
Explaining his government’s priorities, the PM underlined the importance of increasing economic cooperation with Russian Federation and invited Russian investments in Pakistan. He welcomed Russian investments in the energy sector in Pakistan.
The Russian prime minister congratulated Imran Khan on his election and underlined the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations especially in view of the changing regional dynamics.
The two leaders agreed to enhance cooperation on multilateral forums, particularly the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. They also exchanged views on regional issues including situation in South Asia and Afghanistan.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Imran Khan in his address to the China International Import Expo in Shanghai said, the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will benefit both the countries and create more investment opportunities.
“Government was introducing reforms in each sector of Pakistan to ensure desired results. “CPEC will open up new doors of the opportunities,” he underlined.
Mr. Imran Khan lauded the remarks of President Xi Jinping, who said “the doors of China will always remain open”, adding that Pakistan has a range of resources amidst the most diverse landscape.
