ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, seeking top court’s intervention in alleged ‘organised and malicious campaign’ by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his associates against the judiciary and Panama case Joint Investigation Team (JIT), ARY News reported.
The petition was filed by the PTI counsel Chaudhry Faisal Hussain in the top court which states that the premier – by using his position and clout – along with other party officials including finance minister, cabinet ministers, party spokespersons, and workers have executed a campaign by design to hamper and impede the JIT’s probe against the ruling family’s offshore assets.
It alleges that the malicious campaign is underway at the behest of the prime minister himself since the top court has taken up the PTI’s petition on Panama Papers besides a general impression has also been given to the public at large as the ruling family is victim of an unlawful judicial process.
The petition encompasses news papers’ clippings, statements of federal ministers, spokespersons, personal staffers of the premier and other relevant segments of press talks.
The PTI chief, in his petition, has pleaded to the apex court to pass orders to stop the ‘ongoing malicious campaign’ against the judiciary and members of the Panama case JIT.
The petition also seeks the top court’s directives under Article 190 of the Constitution to all the executive and judicial authorities across the country to ensure smooth, free and undaunted implementation of its April 20 orders concerning Panamagate scandal.
