Imran Khan announces countrywide protests after Islamabad arrests

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Thursday urged his party workers and supporters to stage countrywide protests after police arrested workers from his party’s youth convention in Islamabad, ARY News reported.

Addressing a press conference after the arrests, The PTI chief questioned as to how police can handle his party workers especially women as such even under section 144 as the youth convention was being held in an enclosed space.

“They have turned the country into banana-republic as lawyers cannot even meet our arrested workers,” claimed Imran Khan.

Imran Khan announced that he will attend the rally organized by Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed and police can arrest him if it wants.

“I’m certain that a more charged up crowd will come out on November 2,” said the PTI chief.

Khan’s close aide and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed also vowed not to cancel or back down from the November 2 lock down of Islamabad.

Earlier, Capital City Police arrested a number of PTI workers at a time when party leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Asad Umar were addressing a youth convention.

The arrests were made after the government imposed Section 144 in Islamabad for two months.
