Imran informs UN on India’s targeting Pakistani civilians

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Saturday apprised the United Nations (UN) about India’s targeting Pakistani civilians including travelers in civilian buses, ARY News reported.

“India has continued to attack Pakistani civilians and its soldiers along the Line of Control (LoC) and the working boundary. These attacks have increased in intensity and in frequency. Shamefully, India has also moved to deliberately targeting innocent Pakistani civilians including travelers in civilian buses,” he wrote in a letter to Secretary General UN Ban Ki-moon.

At least 10 people were killed in a cross-border fire and shelling which hit a civilian bus in Azad and Jammu Kashmir on November 23.

Imran Khan through a letter drew UN secretary general’s attention towards the ongoing Indian aggression against Pakistan along the LoC and working boundary as well as the use of violence and lethal weapons against unarmed civilians in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK).

“The inaction of the UN in the face of a massive abuse of human rights of the Kashmiris in IOK is a serious threat to regional peace and security,” he said.

He said India’s continuing refusal to allow UN Military Observer Group in India & Pakistan (UNMOGIP) on its side of LoC and its persistent refusal to allow UN Human Rights Observers into Occupied Kashmir is a clear violation of the UN Charter.

Imran said India has gone beyond all norms of international state interaction even when states are in a warlike situation – as it has attacked an ambulance with clear markings.

“This increasing targeting of innocent civilians and ambulances is against all norms of international law including the laws of war,” he said.

The PTI chief made three demands from the UN to protect regional peace and security.

He asked UN to call on India to immediately stop its military attacks along the LoC and working boundary.

He demanded that India immediately allow UNMOGIP Observers on the Indian side of the LoC.

Imran also demanded that India allow UN Human Rights Observers into IOK.
