Imran says ‘inexperience’ cost PTI 2013 elections

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan believes that his party couldn’t bag enough seats in the 2013 general elections because it lacked experience.

In an interview with the state-run television, Khan said the situation now in 2018 was entirely different. “Around eighty percent of our candidates had no experience in the previous polls, but this is not the case anymore.”

He said the PTI will enter the general elections scheduled on July 25 with full preparations.

Khan insisted that he always fought against corruption and would continue doing so in the future. He cited a survey that Khyber Pakhtonkhwa was the only province with minimum level of corruption.

On Monday, an appellate tribunal of the Lahore High Court announced its verdict allowing Khan to contest elections from Mianwali’s NA-95 constituency.

The appellate tribunal judge Justice Faisal Zaman Khan had earlier, reserved the verdict on the appeal filed by PTI chief against the rejection of his candidacy for Mianwali’s National Assembly seat.

Following the decision of returning officer (RO) to reject his nomination papers for NA-95, Imran requested the election tribunal to quash the decision of the RO.

PTI chairman Imran Khan has filed nomination papers for a total of five seats: NA-35 Bannu, NA-53 Islamabad-II, NA-95 Mianwali-I, NA-131 Lahore-IX and NA-243 Karachi. After facing objections on his nomination papers submitted for the constituencies of Lahore, Karachi and Mianwali, Khan has been now given a green signal by to Election Commission of Pakistan to contest on all seats except NA-53. The decision of the election tribunal on Khan’s eligibility to vie for NA-53 Bannu is awaited.
