Had Imran run poll campaign, PTI would have won 9 NA seats: Fawad

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has said the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would have won at least nine of the 11 NA seats had Prime Minister Imran Khan led the campaign for by-elections. 

Talking to a private TV channel, the minister said the top party leadership didn’t run the campaign due to the Election of Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) bar on them.

He said the PTI’s politics centered on Imran Khan and that he was not in the field to led the election campaign.

Separately, the minister in a statement said that the PTI has once again emerged as the largest political party in Sunday’s by-elections.

He said the trend in the by-polls proved that people are with the PTI. The party was a true symbol of federation as its representation was appearing in all the four provinces, he added.

The PTI and PML-N managed to clinch most of the seats in the by-elections on 11 National and 24 provincial assembly seats.

Most of the constituencies where the by-polls were held were vacated by political leaders who were elected on more than one seat in the July 25 general elections.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had won in all national assembly constituencies he contested the election from.

According to unofficial and unverified results, PTI lost two of the four National Assembly seats vacated by its chief Imran Khan to the Muttahida Majli-i-Amal and the PML-N.

The PTI and the PML-N got four seats each out of 11 NA seats. The PML-Q managed to win two seats in Chakwal and Gujrat, whereas the MMA won the Bannu seat.

In the by-elections on 24 provincial assembly seats, the PTI won nine seats (four in Punjab and five in KP) while PML-N grabbed six seats (five in Punjab and one in KP).
