ISLAMABAD: The International Mail Office (IMO) on Thursday foiled the bid to smuggle ecstasy tablets coming from Netherlands into the country, ARY News reported.
Thousands of ecstasy tablets were being smuggled into Pakistan from Netherlands, the IMO officials said.
The IMO said the 9 kilogram tablets were worth more than Rs70 million. The officials said they were to be sold to students of schools and colleges.
Ecstasy is an illegal drug that contains the active ingredient MDMA (3, 4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine).
The IMO officials said one ecstasy tablet was sold for Rs3,500 to 4,000.
An IMO officer said the parcel dispatched from Netherlands was opened after it was suspected of containing suspicious content.

The official said the parcel was sent to a resident of Islamabad, Kashif Khan.
On February 11, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and Airport Security Force (ASF), in a joint operation had foiled a drug smuggling bid and arrested a passenger at Bacha Khan International Airport, Peshawar.
The security teams had collared a passenger from Doha-bound flight and seized 1300 gram drugs. The man, identified as Muhamamd Mannan, was detained shortly after drugs were found from his possession.
The passenger had concealed drugs in a Ludo board game and his shoes.
