Faizullah Khan had mistakenly crossed the Pak-Afghan border, while he was pursuing his professional duties. He was arrested on July 12 by Afghan security forces and was presented before a military court, which convicted the Pakistani journalist and handed him four years’ jail term for entering into Afghanistan without travel documents.
The IFJ and PFUJ strongly condemned Faizullah’s arrest and expressed their grave concerns over measures taken against journalists and threats issued them.
The Federal Information Minister, Pervez Rasheed told that he talked to the Afghan President, Hamid Karzai and requested him to use his powers for the release of Pakistani journalist.
Moreover, JUIF leader, Senator Talha Mehmood has said that he has written a letter to Afghan authorities in this regard and they have ensured him of resolving the matter soon.
