ISLAMABAD: Terming the fifth generation warfare as a “battle of ideas”, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday said “ideas” will be more important than “arms” in the near future.

Addressing a ceremony at the Press Information Department (PID) in Islamabad, Chaudhry said censorship will become obsolete and governments will not be able to use it to their advantage.

He added that social media is growing at a fast speed whereas it seems hard for print media to survive in the coming years.”Past governments used advertisements for their personal benefits but the incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government will not waste taxpayers’ money.”

The information minister also highlighted the need of introducing 100 percent change in the field of information. “Our economy is being hurt with existing ways of the media,” adding that the state radio and television are not feasible and could not compete in the prevailing situation.

The PTI leader further said,  “In the 60’s we were able to manufacture our own radio transmitters. Now we import everything from outside.”

Commenting on Basant celebrations, Chaudhry said the festival has an economic impact as companies allocate funds for the event.
