ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz on Thursday appeared before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Sharif family in the Panama Papers case for third time in less than a week, ARY News reported.
The premier’s son, in a brief media interaction outside Federal Judicial Academy, said that he was kept waiting for two hours before interrogation could finally start. “I was not allowed to be accompanied by my counsel and interrogated in isolation,” he said.
He said that he has been called to appear again before the JIT. However, he said that if the matter did not proceed in a fair manner, then he will present them in the Supreme Court and the public.
In a response to a question whether the JIT expressed satisfaction on his replies, Hussain said that he does not want to comment on anyone’s viewpoint and this should be asked from the JIT team.
He said neither the prime minister or his family was involved in any wrongdoing, and no evidence will appear before the JIT.
Earlier Hussain Nawaz said that he would appear before the JIT as many times as he was called to record his statement.
The JIT had issued fresh summon to the PM’s son for his appearance on Thursday to explain the money trail behind the London properties. Another son of the premier Hassan Nawaz failed to appear before the JIT on Wednesday.
The JIT headed by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) additional director general Wajid Zia resumed proceedings at the Federal Judicial Academy to quiz the PM’s son with regard to the family’s London properties.
Previously on Tuesday, the JIT had grilled him for six hours to establish the money trail behind the London properties. The JIT had also recorded the statement of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Chief Executive Officer Saeed Ahmed.
However, the PM’s son had reportedly failed to convince the JIT members about the ownership of the family’s London properties, said sources privy to the proceedings.
When asked about the ownership of the flats in the London’s pricey locality, Mayfair, Hussain replied that Maryam Nawaz could better inform about them, sources said, adding, he was unable to apprise the JIT members of the purchase date of the London properties.
