Overcharging: Huge stock of medicines seized in countrywide raids

ISLAMABAD: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) on Saturday raided various medicine supplying companies in different cities and seized their stock for selling drugs at exorbitant rates, ARY News reported.

The DRAP team conducted a raid in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar and confiscated huge stock of medicines whose suppliers were found selling them at excessive prices.

In Peshawar, the team raided Madina Enterprises building and seized a go-down of drugs. Similarly in Garden area of Karachi, the DRAP officials seized stock whose prices the shop owners had increased voluntarily.

Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Aamer Mehmood Kiani said crackdown on such medicine suppliers would continue across the country.

He also directed the drug regulatory authority to expedite their action and collar every suppliers involved in selling drugs at exorbitant rates.

He said the government wouldn’t tolerate any injustice with the masses.

In a countrywide action against unauthorised and illegal hike in prices of medicine, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) had claimed to have seized stocks of 83 medicines and registered cases against 28 pharmaceutical companies.

Kiani, a few days ago, had said the government was committed to control the illegal price hike of medicines while warning a strict action against the pharmaceutical companies who were violating the rules.
