Hamza says PML-N became part of assemblies despite ‘rigging’

LAHORE: Hamza Shehbaz, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PML-N) candidate for the office of chief minister of Punjab, on Sunday reiterated the demand for formation a parliamentary commission to probe alleged rigging in the polls.

Speaking to media outside the Punjab Assembly, he said his party has become part of the assemblies with a heavy heart. “We are going to the assembly wearing black armbands, not bangles,” he said.

Hamza said a parliamentary commission be formed to probe the alleged rigging in last month’s elections within 30 days. If the country has to progress, a probe into the rigging should be carried out, he emphasized.

The newly elected Punjab Assembly is set to elect new chief minister of the province today.

The session of the provincial legislature has been summoned at 11:00am to elect leader of the house.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has fielded Sardar Usman Buzdar whereas Hamza Shehbaz Sharif is the candidate of the opposition for the slot.

Mr Buzdar, who hails from the mountainous area of Dera Ghazi Khan, is under the media scrutiny since yesterday after a murder case registered against him and his family members in 1998 surfaced.
