WAH: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has a soft heart for labourers, and the government will leave no stone unturned for the welfare of workers and their families.
Addressing factory workers of the Pakistan Ordinance Factory at Wah Cantt on the occasion of May Day, the interior minister said he had struggled for anti-labour laws during previous regimes.
The minister announced a special package for workers who would receive a 25 percent pay raise in basic salaries and two additional increments. The incentives will take effect from today and the package will cost Rs1.2 billion.
Nisar assured the workers that no anti-labourer decision will be taken by the government. He said that POF workers and their leadership will be taken on board on all important issues.
“My speech is not political, neither critical of anyone, nor am I from the constituency, but I still feel a bond with POF workers,” he said. “The labourer always says the right thing from his heart. ”
He said that a high-powered committee will be formed in consultation with PM Sharif to sort out issues pertaining to POF workers.
Chaudhry Nisar said that he has come here to express solidarity with workers of POF on World Labour Day, despite intelligence reports of terror attacks at the factory.
“If the labourer of POF is not secure, then no one is secure,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain said that welfare and prosperity of labourers is the top priority of the government which is fulfilling the basic necessities of labourers in the country.
Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Barjees Tahir said prosperity of labourers guarantees the country’s prosperity. He said the government is striving hard to improve living standard of labourers.
