Govt plans to add 10,000 mw to national grid by next year

CHUNIAN: Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Monday said there would be no power shortfall in the country by next year as speedy work is in progress on several power projects.

“The government plans to add 10,000 mw to national grid by next year,” he said while talking to newsmen at under-construction Balloki power project near Chunian.

He said load management will be done only in those areas, where bills are not paid. He said the new power plants will provide affordable electricity to consumers and industrial sectors to boost economic activities in the country.

Abid Sher Ali said a total of 3800 MW new electricity has been generated by the present government since June 2013 and further 10,000 MW will be added to the national grid by next year.

He said the 1223 MW Balloki power project will be fully functional by early next year.
