Ghulam Sarwar Khan accepts the post of aviation minister

ISLAMABAD: Ghulam Sarwar Khan, who reportedly refused to take the ministry of aviation as a part of a cabinet reshuffle, has accepted Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to change his portfolio.

According to sources, Ghulam Sarwar will take charge as aviation minister on Monday. “After two holidays, I will go to the aviation ministry and start working,” the sources quoted the federal minister as saying.

“PM Imran is my captain and I accept all his decisions. The decision is to strengthen the premier’s hands,” he was further quoted as saying.

Khan was so far serving as a federal minister for petroleum.

Federal cabinet on Thursday saw a major reshuffle with the resignation of Asad Umar as finance minister and appointment of noted economist Hafeez Shaikh as Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance.

Minister of Petroleum Ghulam Sarwar Khan was assigned the Ministry of Civil Aviation, which was previously held by Mohammad Mian Soomro as an additional portfolio along with Ministry of Privatisation.

Minister of State for Interior Shaheryar Afridi was made Minister of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON).

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry was given the Science and Technology portfolio which had been without a minister since December last year after Azam Khan Swati’s resignation.

Meanwhile, Ms Firdous Aashiq Awan replaced Fawad Chaudhry but as a Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting as she is not a parliamentarian.
