ISLAMABAD: After the foreign work permits of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif and three federal ministers making headlines for several days, one more permit has surfaced. This time round it is Kulsoom Nawaz’s, wife of the deposed prime minister and PML-N’s candidate for the by-election in NA-120.
In a tweet, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s chief whip in the National Assembly Shireen Mazari posted what she claimed to be the UAE permit of Kulsoom with a caption which reads” Oops! undeclared Sharif family’s Iqamas coming out from all directions it wld seem!”
Earlier, the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) constituted to probe money laundering allegations against the Sharif family had unearthed Nawaz Sharif’s employment with Capital FZE, an offshore company and his UAE work permit.
Subsequently, the permits of Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Foreign Minister Khwaja Asif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar also surfaced.
The Supreme Court through the judgment dated July 18 had disqualified Sharif for concealing his salary from a Dubai-based company owned by his son.
A civil rights campaigner has also moved the Supreme Court seeking disqualification of the three federal ministers for holding work permits. Petitioner Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi contended that the federal ministers concealed their offshore work permits from the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The petitioner pleaded that the ministers by not disclosing their work permits in their nomination papers violated provisions of Representation of Peoples Act, 1976 and stand disqualified under Article 62(i) (f) of the Constitution.
