LAHORE: Fog descends over the plains of Punjab as the weather turns cold, lowering visibility at the motorways, ARY News reported on Thursday.
The Motorway Police has said that the motorway M-III from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad has been closed after thick fog covers the area lowering visibility.
The motorway section M-II from Pindi Bhattian to Lahore has also been closed for traffic as the visibility lowered to five metres in the area due to misty conditions.
Faisalabad to Gojra section of the motorway has also been closed by the motorway police as the fog engulfs the area. Three vehicles were collided at Sayal More due to poor visibility.
The motorway police has advised people to avoid fast speed and unnecessary travel in the ongoing weather conditions.
A spokesman has also advised drivers to use fog lights and wipers in existing weather conditions.
As winter descends, the areas of northern Punjab have been encircled by a thick layer of fog affecting the daily life and vehicular traffic.
Motorways blocked and flights delayed or cancelled due to poor visibility. The thick hazy layer understood to be winter’s fog is a noxious smog carrying serious health hazards, experts say.
Smog is basically derived from the merging of two words; smoke and fog which means that smog is a mixture of smoke and fog, created by increasing vehicular and industrial emissions.
