Fire brought under control at Islamabad’s sasta bazar

ISLAMABAD: A huge fire, which engulfed ‘Sasta’ Bazar in H-9 Sector of Islamabad, has been brought under control by the fire brigade and other rescue teams, ARY News reported on Wednesday, citing officials.

According to details, the fire – which engulfed clothes section of Sasta Bazar – was doused by more than 16 fire tenders and other rescue teams.

Taking to Twitter, Islamabad DC Irfan Nawaz Memon confirmed that no causalities were reported in the incident. “The cooling process is underway, while the situation is under control,” he said, revealing that clothing and carpet stalls had caught fire.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that the affected area has been sealed for the night with police forces deployed to prevent any theft of shopkeepers’ goods. “Around 20 per cent of the market has been affected due to the fire.”

Moreover, the Islamabad DC said a committee was formed to determine the fire’s causes. It will present recommendations to prevent such incidents in the future.

The federal capital’s fire department extinguished the fire, while capital police and district administration were present at the site of the incident. Pakistan Navy and Rescue 1122 from Rawalpindi also offered their services during the operation.

Earlier, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah took notice of the incident and summoned a report from the district administration. “All resources should be used to extinguish the fire,” the interior minister said.

The interior minister directed Deputy Commissioner Islamabad to monitor the rescue operation on the spot and also sought a detailed report from the district administration.

The Rawalpindi Fire Brigade has also been summoned due to the intensity of the fire. On the other hand, Pakistan Navy’s rescue teams were also participating in the operation.

Taking to Twitter, Islamabad DC Irfan Nawaz Memon said the fire brigade and rescue teams were trying to control the fire while all administration officers were present at the scene. “The power supply in the area was shut down to prevent any loss of life,” he added.

Earlier in 2021, a fire broke out at sasta bazar in Rawalpindi, wherein several pushcarts were turned into ashes. The fire broke out at the sasta bazar located at the Chohar Chowk Rawalpindi.
