Woman arrested in Lahore identified as missing Noreen Leghari

LAHORE: A woman who was arrested during a joint operation by Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and intelligence agencies on Saturday in Lahore has been identified as Noreen Jabbar Laghari, a teenage medical student from Jamshoro who had gone missing in February, 

Security officials found the college card and National Identity Card of her father from a hideout which was raided by security forces. Her father received a phone call, and her brother has confirmed that missing girl is actually Noreen.

Noreen had reportedly visited Syria where she had joined the militant group Islamic State. She had returned to Pakistan six days ago and facilitating a terror attack against the christian community on Easter.

According to the CTD, she had married terrorist Ali Tariq who was killed in the operation yesterday. Both were tasked to provide suicide vests to the bomber and reach the target. The vests and explosives were also recovered from the house.

Police had on Saturday also arrested the owner of the house, Malik Hafeez, while intelligence agencies have received information on the whereabouts of terrorist Azeem alias Fauji who had given them the house on rent.

Azeem is alleged to be the commander on a proscribed outfit in Lahore, and had a head money of one million rupees. He is said to have been identified from a CCTV at a nearby shop.

Security forces in Sindh are making further investigations to determine how the terrorists got in contact with Noreen, and to uncover the entire terrorist network.

Police uncovered identity of Noreen after the identity card of Professor Abdul Jabbar was found from the house. This prompted police to find that she was the same girl who missing since February from her hometown of Hyderabad.

Two other accomplices were also arrested while two CTD personnel also sustained injures in the operation. Pakistan Army had claimed that a major terror attack had been foiled in Lahore.
