KARACHI: Father of a gang-rape victim has said he did not report the incident to police for he believed that police’s treatment with a poor was not encouraging.
Talking to ARY News program ‘Off The Record’, he asked, “Has reporting police ever resolved an issue to date? I don’t think that police listen to any poor man.”
A 13-year-old girl was gang-raped by a group of four members in Karachi. The rapists also extorted money from her through blackmailing.

The father said had he not met anchor of ARY News program Sar-e-Aam Iqrar-ul-Hassan, he would not have been able to dare to do what he had done to get culprits arrested.
“Only God knows how many more girls they would have been victimising (if they were free now) and how many they have already victimised,” he expressed remorse.
To a query, he said he did not know about his daughter’s stealing his money and giving it to the culprits to save herself from their blackmailing.
He said he always thought that he would have misplaced the money or miscalculated it.
“After about forty days I realised it and I took my daughter into confidence and asked her. Then she made this shocking revelation to me,” he said.
“Different extreme thoughts raced in my mind but I calmed myself and tried to think wisely for I thought that my any extreme step could put my family in difficulty.”

The victim girl said when she was abused this had gripped her mind so much that she was unable to speak to anyone of it.
“I informed my father through my sister’s husband. Then my father encouraged me to speak up and I told him everything. He then contacted Iqrar bhai and that’s how his team came for our help,” she said.
