Food authority seizes over 300,000 packets of gutka in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Monday confiscated as many as 335,950 packs of smuggled gutka along with 1640 kgs of adulterated chilli pepper, ARY News reported.

The operation against substandard food was carried out under the supervision of Director-General PFA Captain (retd.) Mohammad Usman.

A warehouse and a factory were shut for violating the rules outlined in PFA Act. The warehouse located in Ghulam Muhammadabad area was sealed after smuggled gutka was recovered from the warehouse. 22 packets of tobacco were also seized during the raid.

A case was registered against the warehouse owner at the Gulberg Police Station.

Similarly, a pepper factory on Jhang Road was sealed for producing adulterated chillies. The seized, substandard chillies and the gutka, tobacco were all discarded by the authorities.

DG PFA said that the sale of gutka was ‘strictly banned’ under the ongoing campaign of ‘Gutka Free Punjab Mission’.

He said that the PFA would not rest against food adulteration and will take every necessary step to curb the menace.
