Fahim Ashraf heroics lead Pakistan to last over win against Bangladesh

EDGBASTON: All-rounder Fahim Ashraf hit 30-ball 64 studded with four sixes and as many fours to help Pakistan chase 342 against Bangladesh in an ICC Champions Trophy warm-up match, ARY News reported on Saturday.

Ashraf’s slogging secured a last over victory after Pakistan stumbled in the chase after 8 wickets for 249 runs.

Though Hafeez and Ahmed Shahzad scored 49 and 44 runs respectively. It was Shoaib Malik’s 72 off 66 balls which kept Pakistan in the game.

At 249 for the loss of 8 wickets after losing Imad Wasim, the chase could have been impossible for Pakistan if Fahim Ashraf hadn’t played the way he played to stun all and sundry.

Tailender Hasan Ali scored 27 runs on the other end to help Ashraf do what he did to secure a victory for an already struggling ODI side.

Batting first Bangladesh lost Soumya Sarkar early of their innings. Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes added 142 runs in the second wicket partnership.

Tamim was dismissed before scoring 102 off 93 balls including 9 fours and 4 sixes. Imrul’s 61 and Mushfiqur Rahim’s 46 helped Bangladesh to post 341 for 9 in 50 overs.

Junaid Khan took 4 wickets for 73.
