Experts tasked to devise comprehensive plan to overcome water crises

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Minister for Water Resources Syed Ali Zafar on Friday chaired a high-level meeting of a committee constituted a few days earlier to take immediate action on priority basis to tackle the worsening water situation. 

The high-powered committee represents highly qualified professional both from the government and private sectors having wide experience in water sector.

The meeting was attended by former Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Shamsul Mulk, former minister Nisar Memon, Senator Sitara Ayaz and other experts.

During the meeting, the federal minister thanked the participants who dedicated their valuable time free of cost for greater national cause.

All participants agreed and resolved that they would work day and night to devise a comprehensive plan and guideline including short, medium and long terms.

The federal minister said that it is imperative to implement the national water policy into considering the prevailing conditions of water scarcity and decided to hold another meeting of the same water sector professionals in the first week of July.

He advised all experts to come up with their well-prepared written suggestions for debate in the next meeting to draw a roadmap aimed to better address the country’s precious water issues.
