ECP terms PTI claim of changes in voters’ lists as ‘propaganda’

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday termed the PTI claim of changes in the voters’ list of the 20 by-election constituencies as propaganda and said that the polls are being held on previous lits, ARY NEWS reported.

The ECP issued the statement today after multiple press conferences from PTI leaders Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry in which they announced to challenge the pre-poll rigging in the elections through the induction of unknown voters into the lists.

The commission said that the elections on 20 by-poll constituencies are being held on old voter lists. “The voter lists are frozen after the announcement of the election schedule for preparing polling schemes,” it said adding that no changes could be made to the lists after the announcement of the schedule unless the polls are concluded.

Earlier in the day, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) condemned ‘baseless allegations’ being levelled by former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan against the commission and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja.

In a message from its Twitter handle, the ECP said that no institution could be declared a traitor if people starts labeling them as traitors.

“We want to clarify that the election commission will not be provoked or pressurized and will continue to make decisions as per the constitution and law,” the ECP said.
