KARACHI: In the latest attack on traffic police, a senior officer of the traffic police and his driver were shot dead Friday morning by unidentified assailants in Azizabad neighbourhood of the city, ARY News reported.
According to police sources, unidentified armed pillion riders sprayed bullets on the vehicle of DSP Muhammad Haneef near Hussainabad area of Azizabad, leaving him and his driver, Sultan, critically injured. They were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Soon after the incident, the personnel of the law enforcement agencies reached the crime scene and started investigation after collecting evidences.
Karachi police chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo said eye witnesses gave inconsistent account of the attackers
who targeted the DSP as some said they were two in number riding a motorbike while others put the number at four. He said investigators have collected 18 to 20 spent bullet casings of 9mm pistols from the crime scene.Thebo hoped that the attackers would soon be brought to justice.
Sindh Home Minster Suhail Anwar Siyal expressed grief over the killing of the DSP and his driver and directed the Karachi police chief to submit a report on the incident.
He further directed the police to beef up security in the city and make efforts to nab the assailants.
