22,000 personnel to be recruited in Sindh police under supervision of Army: Nisar

The minister said besides census, documentation of the population of Karachi will exclusively be ensured. Phone calls for extortion were being received from two Islamic countries as well.

“A digitized crime record database at the federal level will be established which would be headed by National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA),” he said while addressing a news conference in Islamabad.

The federal minister said that a meeting of home departments and counter terrorism departments would be convened to evolve an out of the box solution.

He said that the country’s social media was playing a negative role by spreading rumours which was affecting Pakistan’s progress in the war on terror. Rumors on social media become news which consequently brings down morale of security agencies.

“I am not against social media but the rumors on this platform are spread through anonymous sources, which could be from RAW agent or terrorist,” he said.

The interior minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to defeat terrorism with strong determination of the nation.

He said attacking renowned Qawwal Amjad Sabri and kidnapping son of the chief justice of Sindh High Court indicated desperation of terrorists.

Chaudhry Nisar said there was no need for the nation to disappoint, as terrorists were on the run.

The minister said law and order situation had improved to a large extent as a result of which incidents of extortion, terrorism, target killing, and kidnapping for ransom in Karachi had decreased.

He said our law enforcement agencies had rendered unmatched sacrifices to restore peace in the country, especially in Karachi.

“Our security agencies have taken murder of Amjad Sabri and kidnapping of chief justice’s son as challenge and they will certainly reach to the culprits,” he said.

He said some elements were playing negative role on social media to harm Pakistan’s commitment to fight terrorism.

Nisar said 20, 000 policemen and 2,000 ex-military servicemen would be recruited in Sindh police. He said the Army chief had assured to provide light arms to the police force to better fight terrorists.

He said the army will also provide training facilities to the police force. He said opinion will be sought from legal experts to give legal cover to the Joint Investigation Teams.

The minister stressed the need for making special rules to confront elements hostile to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

He said Pakistan tried to gate and fence its side of the border with Afghanistan to check terrorists and criminals’ infiltration, but hurdles were created in this regard.

The federal minister said Karachi Safe City project would be initiated on the lines of Islamabad Safe City project to be monitored by cameras, Radio Pakistan reported.

He said Ulema will be requested to support the government in its endeavor to fight terrorism.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan also urged media to play an active role in supporting security agencies in the psychological warfare.

He also announced to send Pakistani police in UN peacekeeping missions abroad and a formal letter to this effect will be written to the world body.
