KARACHI: Police on Tuesday claimed to have foiled a short-term kidnapping bid while killing two kidnappers in a shootout in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority area, ARY News reported.
According to SSP South, the suspects kidnapped a four-year-old kid from DHA’s Khayaban-e-Tariq area while he was on his way to school with his father.
The criminals moved the kid to another car while some of their accomplices stayed with his father in another. The suspects then demanded Rs170million from the boy’s grandfather for his release.
SSP West added that a police team which stopped the kidnappers’ car for having tinted glasses had to chase them as they didn’t stop. During the chase, the kidnappers dropped the boy near Do Darya area of DHA and opened fire upon the police party forcing them to respond.
In retaliatory firing, the kidnappers were killed, a cellphone and a pistol were recovered from the vehicle, said the police officer.
The criminals who held the kid’s father hostage, however, managed to flee.
The child’s grandfather told media that he received a phone call from kidnappers who initially demanded Rs150million as ransom but settled for Rs7million before police killed them in the shootout.
