Culprit injured in cross fire with Rangers turns out to be ex-policeman

KARACHI: Criminal record of the suspect who got injured during shootout with Rangers on Monday night in Karachi has revealed that he had served in police department, ARY News reported.

An encounter between Rangers and suspected criminals on Tariq Road had claimed life of a passerby and injured two others, however, identification of the victims was done on Tuesday.

Police said the suspect was fired from department over his criminal activities.

They said several cases were registered in different police stations against Ehsan Ali.

The suspects were looting a car driver and they opened fire upon reaching of Rangers, which resultantly left a Rangers official Tariq injured.

Police said one citizen got killed from firing by the suspects. While, upon firing by Rangers, one criminal got injured and the other managed to flee from the scene.

The deceased person was identified as Rab Nawaz.

Two cases have been lodged against the culprits at Ferozabad police station. Rangers Inspector Mohammed Qabil is plaintiff in one case, while the state is plaintiff in the other case lodged on recovery of weapons.

Sections of murder, attempted murder and firing on security forces have been added in the case.

Earlier, the senior superintendent of police East had said, “We are receiving information regarding the incident and we’re now collecting evidence.”

The SSP East had said the injured were identified as Ehsan Ali and Tauqeer. A police card was also found from one of the injured persons.

Earlier this month, at least 17 suspected criminals including three extortionists were arrested during raids in different parts of Karachi. Arms and narcotics were recovered from the possession of arrested criminals, Rangers spokesperson said.
