Court suspends Lakhvi's detention order

An anti-terrorism court had recently granted bail to Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of the Mumbai attacks.

Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi today heard a petition filed by Lakhvi, seeking an end to his detention.

The government had extended his detention in the Adiala Jail under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). Lakhvi had challenged his detention in the IHC.

Lakhvi’s counsel Rizwan Abbasi in his arguments said that the court had previously accepted his client’s bail, but the administration had detained him which was unlawful and against the fundamental rights.

The bench suspended the detention order after hearing the counsel’s arguments.

Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi is among the seven persons facing charges of planning and helping to carry out the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
