A two-member LHC bench headed by Justice Abdus Sami stopped execution of the death row convict Faiz Ahmed on a petition filed by his counsel.
The plea said that the convict’s appeal against the death sentence was pending in the Supreme Court since 2009 and pleaded for setting aside his death warrant.
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) had issued Faiz Ahmad’s death warrant on an application filed by Faisalabad jail authorities.
The court suspended the execution and said the ATC must clarify in an application in the LHC as to why a death warrant was issued for his execution when his appeal has been pending with the apex court.
Death row convict Faiz Ahmed was awarded death sentence in 2006 for killing Lance Naik Tariq Mahmood in Nankana Sahib.
