LAHORE: As the five-day parole granted to by the Punjab government to former premier Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (Retd) Safdar, about to end at 4:00pm on Monday, the convicted trio taken to Adiala jail again.
A special plane, with Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar on-board, flown from Lahore’s Allama Iqbal airport to land in Rawalpindi shortly.
The convicts will be taken to Adiala jail to resume their sentence in the Avenfield corruption reference.
A convoy of cars carrying the trio left Jati Umra earlier afternoon where scores of PML-N leaders were present to see off their leaders. The security was tightened around the premises.
Sharif along with his daughter and son-in-law was released on the parole on Sept 12 to attend the funeral of his wife Begum Kusloom Nawaz who died in London last week.
The incarcerated PML-N leaders were first released for 12 hours from Adiala jail but later the parole was extended for five days on the Sharif family’s request.
Nawaz, Maryam and Capt (retd) Safdar, who have been serving sentences at Adiala Jail, were escorted by police from Adiala Jail to the Nur Khan Airbase from where they were brought to Lahore via special flight at 2:30 am on Wednesday to attend funeral of Kulsoom Nawaz.
Kulsoom Nawaz breathed her last on September 11 at a hospital in London after prolonged illness.
Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and her spouse Safdar, were convicted by an accountability court in the Avenfield reference on July 6. Nawaz Sharif was sentenced ten years in prison, while Maryam was imprisoned for seven years.
