Army chief, PM discuss national security

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday discussed matters of national security with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a meeting here, ARY News reported.

According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, the army chief met the premier at Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad.

“Professional issues pertaining to national security were discussed during the meeting between the army chief and prime minister,” the statement read.

President Mamnoon Hussain, while meeting the new COAS, felicitate General Qamar Javed Bajwa on becoming the new army chief.

The president said that National Action Plan against terrorism should be implemented for security in the country. He added that the armed forces of Pakistan will live up to the expectations of the country.

He said that Operation Zarb-e-Azb should be continued till all the goals against terrorism are achieved.

It is pertinent to mention that COAS Bajwa took charge as the 16th chief of Pakistan Army in a colorful change of command ceremony on 29th November, 2016.

The new army chief is expected to help reset the relations between the military and the civilian government in a nuclear-armed nation of 190 million people and will face vast challenges at home and abroad.

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that there will be no immediate shift in the country’s military policy under the new army chief.
