KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Governor Muhammad Zubair, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Dr Farooq Sattar and city mayor Waseem Akhtar met Dawoodi Bohra community’s spiritual leader Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin who is currently in the city to observe Muharram here, ARY News reported.
Dr Saifuddin had arrived in Pakistan from India on Sept 15 to spend the initial mourning days of Muharram in Pakistan.
The CM, Governor Sindh, and MQM leaders met the spiritual leader and participated in majlis on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor expressed his gratitude to Dr Saifuddin for visiting Karachi after a long time. He said the spiritual leader’s visit to the city to observe Muharram indicated that the security situation had improved significantly.
Zubair commended Bohra Jamaat for contributing in the city’s economic activities. Pakistan’s development and prosperity is linked with development of the metropolis, he said.
After peace being restored to the city, environment was conducive for investment in the city, he said and appreciated the government and law enforcement agencies for improving security situation.
In his remarks, Dr Saifuddin said he was happy to observe the mourning month here after passage of considerable time since his grandfather and father had also addressed majlis in Karachi.
Appreciating the government and LEAs efforts to maintain law and order situation, he said ongoing development projects would benefit residents of the city.
Later speaking to media, Governor Sindh said strict security measures have been put in place to ensure that the mourning days pass off without any incident. He said clerics of various persuasions converged on the point that everyone should respect different religious sects.
