CJP should dissociate himself from SC bench: Maulana Asad

Federal Minister for Communication Asad Mehmood said on Monday that the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial should dissociate himself from the Supreme Court (SC) bench hearing the election delay case, ARY News reported.

He was of the view that a judge becomes a party after taking suo motu notice. “A judge should not be part of the case after taking suo motu notice. The chief justice should dissociate himself from the bench now.”

He alleged that former Punjab CM Pervaiz Elahi dissolved the assembly on the orders of ‘a person.’ He demanded suo motu notice on Pervaiz Elahi’s decision. He further alleged that Imran Khan was backed by then judicial and military establishment.

Maulana Asad asked the judiciary to announce such verdicts which strengthen democracy in the country. He added that the court cannot make ‘political decisions nor it can use chief executive’s powers.” The communication minister said that the CJP should not exceed his powers.
