LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has ordered the immediate arrest of the suspect who threw acid on a woman’s face in Lahore.
The chief justice on Saturday heard an application at the apex court’s Lahore registry filed by an acid attack victim. The woman, Naila Bibi, a resident of Green Town, said that was married in Bahawalpur and had received a divorce from her husband.
She alleged that her former husband threw acid on her face after the divorce after being instigated by her former in-laws. CJP Nisar, after hearing the aggrieved woman’s plea, ordered the immediate arrest of the suspect.
He also ordered an inquiry report from the concerned DIG within one week. He said that strict action will be taken against the police officers if no action is taken and the suspect is not arrested.
The chief justice also asked about the best skin treatment available in the city and directed to provide her corrective skin surgery.
Acid attacks on women are still prevalent across the country and have seen a further rise in various cities of Punjab. Last month six women were victims of acid attacks while three female students of Gujrat University have been victim of the horrendous crime.
