ISLAMABAD: China on Saturday said it played a constructive role in defusing tensions between Pakistan and India.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said this at a press briefing in Beijing on the sidelines of the annual National People’s Congress legislative meetings, Radio Pakistan reported.
He said New Delhi and Islamabad should meet each other halfway to de-escalate the crisis, portraying China’s role as a balancing act between its nuclear-armed neighbours.
Wang Yi cheerily referring Pakistan as China’s iron brother said we can create a better future through cooperation, when confrontation gives way to dialogue and disagreements are settled by goodwill.

The comments by China’s top diplomat came as strained ties between the two South Asian countries eased after they stood at the brink of war following reciprocal air attacks.
On March 7, China had lauded efforts of Pakistan to have a dialogue with India while appreciating its restraint in action during recent tensions with its eastern neighbour.
In a statement, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou had said Beijing and Islamabad were all-weather strategic partners and they had always supported each other.
He had said, “China has closely followed the situation between Pakistan and India, and appreciates Pakistan’s remaining calm and exercising restraint from being first in action, and persisting in easing tension with India through dialogue.”
