ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday hit back at criticism of his initiative to collect funds for the construction of dams in the country to fend off a looming water crisis, saying he is doing all this for the national cause.
“We are being billed as beggars over fundraising for dams. We are not beggars, but doing all this for the national cause,” the chief justice asserted while hearing a case.
He said these are mean people who think this way.
When opponents didn’t find anything else they started objecting to the construction of dams, Justice Nisar said and added these people should be ashamed of leveling such accusations.
A day earlier, Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa met Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar at the Supreme Court and handed him over a cheque of Rs 1.05 billion during the meeting.
According to military’s spokesperson Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, the army chief conveyed to the chief justice that ““Pak Army shall continue to contribute towards nation building as a national institution.”
The army chief, in his letter to the CJP, informed that the junior commissioned officers/soldiers of the army will donate two-day salary while army officers/ will give their one-day salary to the dam fund.
He also mentioned in the letter that Army’s welfare organizations also made donations for the fund.
