Chaudhry Shujaat arrives in Karachi to form coalition ahead of election

KARACHI: Amidst political turbulence following the disqualification of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain arrived in Karachi on Wednesday to hold meetings with politicians in a bid to form a political alliance, ARY News reported.

Speaking to media after his arrival in Karachi, Shujaat said he cherished a desire to unite all factions of Muslim League in the country. He said he would meet Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) chief Pir Pagara and former Sindh chief minister Ghous Ali Shah during his stay in the province.

A large number of PML-Q workers welcomed their party leader at Karachi airport.

Answering a question with regard to Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s sit-in to demand justice for the victims of Model Town incident, he said in the firing incident fourteen people were murdered in Lahore.

The veteran politician, who

was an ally of former military ruler retired General Pervaiz Musharraf and held the office of prime minister for a brief period during his rule, on a question, denied that he was in contact with the former military strongman.

On July 28, the Supreme Court had disqualified Nawaz Sharif for concealing his salary from a Dubai-based company owned by his son. Removal of Sharif from the top office has unleashed a spell of uncertainty and hectic political maneuvering ahead of the next general elections which are scheduled to take place within a period lesser than a year.

Nawaz Sharif after his disqualification from the public office set off from Islamabad in cavalcade via the historic Grand Trunk (GT) Road for Lahore, addressing the participants of his homecoming rally at cities and towns along the road.
