Chaos erupts in Islamabad ahead of Qadri’s return to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Federal capital turned into battleground as activists of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) clashed with Police just hours before PAT Chairman Tahir-ul-Qadri is due to land in the city, ARY News reports.

Scores of PAT activists had arrived at Benazir Bhutto International Airport to welcome Tahir-ul-Qadri to Pakistan.

According to sources, Punjab Police fired tear gas shells and lodged baton charges to disperse the crowd which had gathered to receive the PAT Chairman since early morning.

It should be noted that the federal government has sealed the cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi and Section 144 has been imposed. Mobile phone services will also remain suspended till evening.
