The Supreme Court has directed the government and the opposition to appoint the CEC by December 8, otherwise the court will order legal action against the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition.
Tthe opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar have agreed over three names for the CEC which will be sent to the parliamentary committee for final decision.
After the meeting Ishaq Dar and Khursheed Shah talking to media announced the shortlisted names of Shariat Court Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza, former Supreme Court judge Justice Tariq Pervez and Justice Tanvir Ahmed Khan.
After holding a discussion with the finance minister and a phone conversation with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the three names for CEC office finalized, Shah said.
The names will be sent to the parliamentary committee for picking one of the candidates as CEC.
