Caste riots in India prompts cancellation of Samjhauta Express

Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Railways Javed Anwar has confirming the cancellation of the train service by stating that Indian officials requested their Pakistani counterpart to cancel the train service due to the ongoing caste violence in the country.

“They (India) requested us to cancel the train services as there are violent riots taking place in Indian Punjab and cannot guarantee the safety of the passengers”, he added.

It should be noted that Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) suspended the Lahore-Delhi Dosti Bus Service for a day due to the ongoing riots in Indian state of Haryana.

Ten people have died in caste protests which triggered widespread arson and looting in a north Indian state.
