Car destroyed by explosion in Karachi’s Defence area, police launch investigation

KARACHI: A car was destroyed after an explosion occurred inside it in the wee hours of Monday in Karachi’s Defence area, ARY News reported.

However, no loss of life was reported in the wake of incident. The vehicle was parked at an empty plot near Khadda Market, Defence when it exploded.

A fire brigade van was called to douse the flames, which had completely destroyed the car. According to police, gas cylinder fitted in the car exploded and the blast occurred. It is reported that at least six LPG cylinders were kept in the car that intensified the flames.

However in a dramatic turn, sources citing Bomb Disposal Squad told ARY News that no clue of cylinder was found from the site.

Police decided to obtain CCTV cameras installed outside nearby homes and the road to determine the actual cause of the blast.

The law enforcers said the car that caught fire was stolen from Jamshed Road area a few days ago. Further investigation is underway.

A few months back, a car had mysteriously caught fire while being driven by its owner in the city’s Boat Basin area. However no casualty was reported and the driver managed to get out of the vehicle in time.

The owner said that it was most likely due to a short circuit in the car’s battery. Fire fighters were also called to douse the flames, but the fire had largely damaged the vehicle by then.
