KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Sunday that Karachi’s politics has degenerated into a farce over the past few days.
In a tweet, Bilawal Bhutto said, “What a farce Karachi politics has been for the past few days. Our city deserves better.”
On Wednesday, leaders of MQM-P and PSP had announced to forge an alliance for the 2018 general elections under one party, one name, and one symbol.
However, this alliance could not last long as the MQM-P’s Coordination Committee decided not to abandon its distinct political identity, and symbol.
Subsequently, Dr Farooq Sattar in a hurriedly-called press conference announced severing ties with the party and politics only to reverse the decision an hour later after his mother persuaded him to take back his decision.
Earlier on Saturday, PSP chief Mustafa Kamal deplored an impression that his party has the backing of the ‘establishment’ and MQM-P chief Dr Farooq Sattar was pressed for forming the alliance with the PSP.
Addressing a press conference at Pakistan House, Kamal accused heaped scorn on the MQM-P leaders and accused Sattar of soliciting the support of the establishment for bringing the two parties to the negotiations table.
