KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was a true visionary leader who laid the foundation for a new country where everyone including minorities were given their constitutional rights.
The chief minister was addressing a gathering to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) founder at the People’s Secretariat, said that Bhutto founded the party to alleviate the problems of the downtrodden.
He said that Bhutto came to power when Pakistan was bleeding, and in state of shock because its one wing was chopped, and restored the dignity of the nation.
Thereafter, Bhutto secured the release of 90,000 prisoners, provided a new constitution. created job opportunities in the country and abroad, spearheaded the process of industrialisation and developed the shattered country.
This laid the foundation for a new country where everyone including minorities were given a constitutional right to live.
CM Murad said that Bhutto left an indelible effect on the politics of the nation, and brought it out of the drawing rooms of the feudal and spiritual ‘pirs’
and into the hands of the common people.“Shaheed Bhutto is the name of struggle, Bhutto is the name of sacrifice, sacrifice for the people of Pakistan, Bhutto is the name of martyrdom – the martyrdom that makes you live in the hearts and soul of poor people of Pakistan whom he served,” he said.
He said that the Bhutto demonstrated people power and the PPP leadership and workers has carried forward the tradition to serve the people.
Former Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Maula Bux Chandio, Waqar Mehdi, and Saeed Ghani also spoke on the occasion. Provincial minister Manzoor Wassan said that he foresees victory for the PPP in the 2018 general elections from across the nation including Karachi.
