Heavy rainfall claims 12 lives in Balochistan

QUETTA: At least 12 people have been killed and several houses were completely destroyed due to heavy rainfall in Balochistan.

According to Director Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Balochistan, flash floods swept away several houses in Pathar Colony and Zehri Colony of Hub city.

So far, nine bodies of drowned people including women and children were recovered while search for other three was reportedly underway. The affected people have been shifted to safe places, sources said.

Traffic on Quetta-Karachi road has also been suspended due to flood water.

Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri has directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority to speed up the relief activities at rain affected areas in the province.

He also directed the disaster management officials to shift citizens, living near streams and rain nullahs to safer places by also ensuring provision of flood supplies and tents.
