Ayyan once again fails to get her name off ECL

The SHC today conducted hearing of a petition filed by the supermodel seeking removal of her name from the ECL.

Ayyan’s lawyer Latif Khosa contended that the federal government has committed contempt of court by not putting his client off the list and requested for taking strict notice of it.

Additional attorney general while presenting the government’s stance said that the name of Ayyan was removed from the ECL upon court orders and therefore the petition against the government is not admissible.

After listening to the arguments from both sides, the court adjourned the hearing till May 16.

The SHC, in the previous hearing, had issued notices to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Ministry of Interior and other concerned departments seeking replies from them on the plea filed by the supermodel.

She stated in the petition that her name has not been stricken off the ECL despite specific directions by the court.

The Interior Ministry had initially removed her name but it was put back on the request of the FIA as she was being investigated for money laundering.

The supermodel was arrested in March last year after attempting to smuggle half a million dollars to the United Arab Emirates. She was released on bail after four months.

Ayyan had told the court that she intends to travel to Dubai to meet her mother and to meet her professional commitments.
