Attempted murder: MPA Achakzai remanded in yet another case

QUETTA: A magisterial court on Wednesday granted two-day remand of Abdul Majeed Achakzai MPA to police, who fatally ran over a traffic sub-inspector on June 20, in yet another case related to attempted murder in 1992, ARY News reported.

Achakzai was arrested on June 24 for allegedly killing a traffic sergeant by running his vehicle over him at the GPO Chowk in Quetta. Later, he was booked in another case pertaining to a kidnapping registered at the Satellite Town police station in 2009.

Police produced Achakzai before the magisterial court of Faiza Bakhtawar and pleaded to hand over his custody for questioning in an attempted murder case, which is the third case surfaced against him after his arrest.

While allowing their request, the magistrate remanded the MPA for two days and asked investigation officer to submit investigation report in the next hearing.

Achakzai is currently in police custody on seven-day remand in the two cases.

He was arrested from his residence in Satellite Town after it transpired that the vehicle that hit the sergeant was being driven by him.

According to police, Traffic Sergeant Attaullah died after hit by a rashly driven land cruiser on June 20 while he was performing his duty at the GPO Chowk on Zarghoon Raod.

Earlier Quetta police had registered a First Information Report (FIR) of the incident against unknown persons despite knowing that Achakzai was himself driving the vehicle. Compelled by outrage over the incident on social media, the police arrested him.

Majeed Achakzai is also a close relative of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai.  He was elected from the PB-13 constituency in Qilla Abdullah.
