KARACHI: An Anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday announced a verdict in the murder case of Orangi Pilot Project Director Parween Rahman eight years after she was shot dead in the city, ARY NEWS reported.
Parween Rahman, head of the Orangi Pilot Project (OPP), was gunned down near her office in Orangi Town on March 13, 2013, and joint interrogation teams (JITs) probing her murder found roles of militant and political groups behind her murder.
According to details, the ATC found three members of a political party guilty in the murder case and awarded them collective imprisonment of over 57 years.
The convicts have been identified as Ahmed Khan, Amjad Hussain, Ayaz Swati, Rahim Swati, and Imran Swati. The ATC awarded life imprisonment of 50 years to Rahim Swati for a primary role in the murder besides also imprisoning his son, Imran, for seven-year and six months.
The court had reserved the verdict on Oct 15 after both prosecution and defence sides concluded their arguments in the case.

During the course of the hearing, a state lawyer requested the court to frame an additional charge of conspiring to commit the crime against the accused. There is sufficient evidence to substantiate the conspiracy charge, he added.
The court directed him to present his arguments in this regard on the next hearing and adjourned the case until Nov 3.
