ATC acquits 11 terror suspects due to lack of evidence

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) here on Thursday discharged 11 suspected terrorists allegedly affiliated with banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi owing to lack of evidence.

The ATC judge acquitted the suspects from as many as 12 charges of planning a terror plot in the city, possessing explosive material, weapons and ammunition.

According to Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), all men were arrested during a raid in Karachi’s Ittehad Town area after a gun battle.

The CTD claimed to have recovered weapons, explosives and ammunition at time of their arrest in January, 2016.

During the course of investigation, the CTD said all men had confessed of planning a terror plot in the city. The court acquitted Qari Mohsin, Qari Akram, Mohsin Khan, Riaz Anwar and seven others due to lack of evidence against them.
