Army asks SC to probe Justice Siddiqui’s startling allegations

ISLAMABAD: Expressing concern over the Islamabad High Court judge, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui’s startling allegations, the Pakistan army on Sunday asked the Supreme Court to initiate an appropriate inquiry to ascertain the veracity of these allegations.

In a statement, ISPR said: “An honourable judge of Islamabad High Court of Pakistan has leveled serious allegations against state institutions including honourable judiciary and the premier state intelligence agency.”

“In order to safeguard the sanctity and credibility of the state institutions, honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan has been requested to initiate appropriate process to ascertain the veracity of the allegations and take actions accordingly,” it added.

While addressing at the Rawalpindi Bar Association a day earlier, Justice Siddiqui leveled serious allegations about the intelligence agency’s interference in judicial matters.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar also took notice of the judge’s remarks and summoned complete record of the speech delivered by him from Pakistan Electronic Media and Regulatory Authority (Pemra).

While hearing a case today at the apex court’s Karachi registry, the chief justice stated in clear terms that the judiciary is working independently without any kind of pressure.
